Geology Center and Library

This is a project to create a futuristic library, one that not only collects information but has the advantage of intervention.  A person can use the Hall of Knowledge to gather information in a key-less interface by touching the electron-sensitized screens.  If the information a person is looking for requires more of a physical attribute, one can enter the “Geosphere” where earthly examinations and analytical research can be accomplished.   The “Geosphere” is six hundred feet in diameter and 300 ft in height.  Inside the “Geosphere”, areas can be enclosed for controlled experiments but most of it is open for the public.  It Also includes the most up to date equipment to analyze and store information that would be gathered from the enclosed areas and from the 2000-foot pit in the center of the sphere.  The pit is packed with sensors and all the data is gathered on the super-computer for research and analysis.

The location of the center is ideal for earthquake activity or other similar natural phenomena.  It is located in Canyon Road in Daly City, 24 miles north of San Francisco Airport and 36 miles south of the City of San Francisco.  Students from San Francisco University, Stanford University plus other educational facilities near by, the USGS Center for Coastal Geology have access to the center.  Towards the west is the Pacific Ocean, which gives a great view especially during sunset.  Another great view is towards the north where one of the most beautiful bridges ever constructed lies on the horizon, The Golden Gate Bridge.  And Oakland is towards the west surpassing the San Francisco Bay.

During the night, the Geology Center lights up the otherwise empty/dark Daly Hill.  The center can be seen from miles away, from the skyscrapers of metropolitan San Francisco or as near by as driving along the freeway (Interstate 280).
